  • A Study on an introductory experiment for the lower grades –Fabrication of a simplified electromagnetic wave detector–, Kusama Yusuke, Takaya Masanori, Mochizuki Koji, Memoirs of Numazu College of Technology, 45,   2011 01 31 , In this paper, fabrication of a simplified electromagnetic wave detector known as a coherer detector was examined for an introductory experiment for the lower grades of college of technology with an almost zero level of knowledge in the area of electrical and electronics engineering. Appending a transmitting and receiving antenna to the conventional coherer was considered in addition to the replacement of highly-used motor or fairy lights by a super luminosity LED. Some interesting antennas based on the student original idea were obtained.
  • Improvement of First Year Experiences of Electric and Electronics Engineering, Takaya M, Kusama Y, Nishimura K, Shima N, Mochizuki K, Memoirs of Numazu College of Technology, 45,   2011 01 31 , In this paper, Improvement of "first year experiences" in department of electric and electronics engineering is reported. In laboratory tours, students are given an assignment of a laboratory. Experiments of newly introduced are electronics crafts of bread-boards, original substrate fabrication and science experiments. Introduction of science experiments are reported in another article. As a result of questionary investigation, these modifications are evaluated faborably for students.

  • A study on development of experimental student program for RF engineer training : High-frequency impedance measurement with waveguide standing wave method, KUSAMA Yusuke, HASHIMOTO Osamu, IEICE technical report. Education technology,   2014 09 20 , In this report, an experimental methodology using a slotted line waveguide to teach basic radio frequency (RF) impedance measurement procedures is proposed. This program and its contents are suitable for undergraduates who have already completed up to twenty hours of electromagnetic wave engineering study. The program comprises Three subthemes: (1) reading comprehension of an English example that explains the processes from measurement to impedance derivation, (2) standing wave pattern measurement and animated simulation, and (3) load impedance calculation and plots using a Smith chart. This experimental methodology makes it possible to effectively teach high-frequency impedance measurements, from the concept to the Smith chart plot.

Electromagnetic compatibility,   2005 03 03 , First an efficient numerical method using modified mode matching method for parallel plate E-plane discontinuity is proposed to disclose the details of the oblique shielding performance of a choke. Close correlation between the attenuation bandwidth and the angular characteristic is discussed. Influence of shift of the resonant frequency or fluctuation of the oscillating frequency on the angular characteristic is examined. Frequency and angular characteristic of single corrugation are also investigated. Shielding effectiveness to the oblique incidence by using periodic discontinuity which is adopted in some microwave ovens, is discussed in addition to its physical shielding mechanism.
  • A Study on Choke Structure Inserted a Metal Piece in the Groove, KUSAMA Yusuke, MINE Hidenori, HASHIMOTO Osamu, IEICE technical report. Electromagnetic compatibility,   2004 07 22 , Resonant frequency and attenuation bandwidth of wide choke are examined when its cross section is changed. FDTD method is employed for numerical study. In the case of the choke inserted a metal piece in the cavity, gap width, choke width and depth, insertion length, fold or inclination angle are changed. It is found that the bandwidth is broadened 50 % by insertion of the metal piece compared with the basic type choke, though fold or inclination of the metal piece will work the adverse effect with regard to the bandwidth. Moreover, it is found that the size reduction of the choke having a same bandwidth is possible from comparison with the mass produced type of the microwave oven.

In the case of the basic choke, it is found optimum horizontal to vertical ratio of the rectangular cavity is 0.7-0.8 which gives the maximum attenuation bandwidth. This data is available for the choke design considering higher modes in the choke cavity.

  • A Study on Transmitting Power Calculation of a Multimode Waveguide Using the FDTD Method, KUSAMA Yusuke, KIMURA Kazuhiro, HASHIMOTO Osamu, IEICE technical report. Microwaves,   2003 08 27 , There is a problem of handling higher modes on absorbing boundaries when the FDTD method is applied to a multimode waveguide analysis. In this study following properties of all propagating modes have its own real phase velocity if it is near the cutoff frequency or not and the Mur's ABC (absorbing boundary condition) needs only a real phase velocity of a specified mode were highlighted. The Mur's ABC were extended into the absorption of multi-propagating modes combining the mode expansion approach on the absorbing boundary where higher modes were multiplex. And this extended method was studied on the calculation of the modal transmitting power of a normal multimode waveguide and a H-plane discontinuity waveguide. The validity of this method was showed quantitatively.
  • A Study on the Door Seal Structure of Microwave Oven with Inserted Sheet Type Lossy Material Using FDTD Method, Matsumoto Kouta, Kusama Yuusuke, Hashimoto Osamu, IEICE technical report. Electromagnetic compatibility,   2000 04 18 , In this paper, a shielding effectiveness (SE) is examined by finite difference time domain (FDTD) method of 3-dim under the use of a lossy material inserted into the gap instead of the conventional choke structure, as a method for suppressing a leakage waves from the gap between the main body of a microwave oven and a door. Concretely, the SE versus the variation of the gap size or the insertion length of the lossy material is examined on TE_<40> mode which is similar to the leakage wave in various higher-modes. It was found out that the SE of 30dB or more was obtained in the case that some lossy material filled up the gap. If the gap becomes 1mm, the insertion length of the lossy material of 50mm or more is necessary to obtain the SE of 30dB or more. It was confirmed quantitatively that the desired SE for practical use was obtained by using the new door seal structure.
  • A Study on the Smaller Choke Groove of a Microwave Oven, Kusama Y, Hashimoto O, Makida M, IEICE technical report. Microwaves,   1999 07 16 , In this paper, the optimum structure of the 2-dim cross section choke groove that is reduced its depth dimension to half scale compared to the convensional one was examined first on TEM mode using FD-TD. In the case that lossy materials is used together with the choke groove, its optimum position and material was examined, too. Then the SE (shielding effectiveness) of the 3-dim door seal structure with periodic slits based on the optimum 2-dim cross section was calculated on the realistic higher-oder mode. It was confirmed that it was attained over 3OdB SE on the smaller choke groove which depth dimension was reduced to half scale and that the higher SE was attained in the case that the lossy material was positioned periodically together. Moreover the validity of this analitical method was confirmed because the SE of experimented choke was about 31dB.

Microwaves,   1998 07 24 , In this paper, we pay attention to the door seal which is generally used for prevention of micrwave leaking from the microwave oven and shielding effects are calculated by method of FDTD using the more real wave, which includes higher modes on a comb-like periodic choke structure of mass production type microwave. As one application of this analytical method for the optimum choke design, shielding effects about the inclination of metal parts which compose the choke groove are examined, too. The availability of this analytical method for complicated structure is confirmed from results.

  • A study on Door Seal Structure of Microwave Oven using Finite Difference Time Domain, Hashimoto Osamu, Kusama Yuusuke, Makida Minoru, Ohsaki Mikio, IEICE technical report. Microwaves,   1997 12 19 , In this paper, we pay attention to the door seal which is generally used for prevention of microwave leakage from the microwave oven and we calculate the shielding effects in the case of changing the size of metal parts which compose the door seal. By numerical calculation, we use the method of finite difference time domain which is effective for electro-magnetic analysis in 3-dim. The resuluts indicate that FDTD is available method for analyzing the general door seal structure and the more effective door seal structure. Also, we show that there are optimam combinations of metal parts sizes and structure which obtain high shielding effects.
