Senba, JOURNAL OF PHYSICS B-ATOMIC MOLECULAR AND OPTICAL PHYSICS, 44,   2011 04 , Three-photon double ionization of an Ar atom has been investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy using an extreme ultraviolet free-electron laser. When the photon energy of the laser has been tuned to the resonances of the intermediate Ar+ ion, photoelectron peaks due to the resonant two-photon single ionization of the Ar+ ion have been observed. And it has been revealed that the appearance of the peaks is controlled by the mixing ratios of 3p(4) core- configurations of the multi-configuration states. Furthermore, it has been shown that the laser intensity dependence of the Ar2+ ion production rate due to the resonant two-photon single ionization strongly deviates from that expected by perturbation theory.

Here, we present GaP-based nanowires with three GaAs bending nodes. The GaAs parts are selectively reduced by annealing. When 20-nm Au particles are used as catalysts, apparent bending is seen at the top GaAs node. At the bottom one, however, a thicker GaAs node is seen, which is due to excess growth at the GaAs side wall. How to control the bending at each node during the growth process remains an issue, but it should be possible to control it by applying an electric field.

We used the micro-photoluminescence (PL) technique to observe PL peaks, which are assigned as exciton and biexciton emissions from single quantum dots. In addition, unusual features appear in the excitation power dependence of the energies and linewidths of the two PL peaks. The PL also depends on the optical polarization axis, indicating that the nanostructures have a highly asymmetrical shape. The results show that our method is a promising way of engineering the positions and optical properties of GaAs/(Al,Ga)As nanostructures.

The spatiotemporal evolution of the plumes exhibited a multilayer structure consisting of vaporized aluminum and condensed aluminum particles, following the expansion of plasma, with expansion velocities of 10(4) m/s for the atomic state and 10(3) m/s for the condensed state. The potential fluctuation in these InGaN QWs was carefully measured using time-resolved photoluminescence, taking several steps to reduce the quantum confinement Stark effect. The potential fluctuation of InGaN QWs on InGaN ULs was smaller than that on conventional GaN ULs with the identical emission wavelength. A violet-light-emitting diode using an InGaN UL had the electroluminescence intensity approximately five times higher than the one using a conventional GaN UL under the low injection-current conditions, indicating that an InGaN UL effectively eliminates the nonradiative recombination centers in the InGaN QWs. From the coincidence momentum maps, the ejection processes of hydrogen molecular ions, CH3OH2+. H-m(+) + CH(3-m) OH+ (m = 2, 3), CD3OH2+ -> D-m(+) + CH(3-m)OH+ (m = 2,3) and CH3OD2+. H-m(+) + CH(3-m) OD+(m = 2, 3), are identified. Based on the results obtained with isotopically substituted methanol, the isotope effect on the ejection process of hydrogen molecular ions is discussed. Furthermore, the ejection of H/D exchanged hydrogen molecular ions (HD+, HD2+ and H2D+) is identified, and the timescales for the H/D exchanging processes are estimated from the extent of anisotropy in the ejection directions.

The dissociation pathways with hydrogen/deuterium migration or hydrogen/deuterium exchange prior to the C-O bond breaking are securely identified. From the anisotropic angular distributions and the relative yields of the fragment ions, it is revealed that the hydrogen migration process is terminated within the period of an intense ultrashort laser pulse. The system consists of a femtosecond-laser-plasma x-ray source for time-resolved measurements and an x-ray microscope with critical illumination for imaging. The temporal and spatial resolutions were 23 ps and better than 12.5 mu m, respectively. We applied this system to the measurement of an aluminum ablation plume induced by irradiation with a 120 fs laser pulse. The shift of the L-shell photoabsorption edge in the expanding plume was observed in the spatiotemporally resolved absorbance spectrum. The space- and time-resolved x-ray absorption spectrum of an expanding laser ablation plume was clearly obtained using the developed system. (c) 2006 American Institute of Physics.

The plasma was excited by an intense femtosecond-laser pulse with a controlled artificial prepulse at intensities of 9.9x10(15) and 6.4x10(14) W/cm(2), respectively. The dependence of the spectra on the time intervals between the main pulse and the prepulse was obtained for delay times of 0-3 ns. The strongest emissions in soft x-ray range occurred in a narrow region less than 50 mu m from the target surface. In contrast to the continuum spectrum, the prepulse technique causes the Al(3+)2p(6)-2p(5)3s emission to extend more than 600 mu m from the target surface. We showed that the line emission can be separated spatially from the other continuum component of the emission spectra and that the extension length increased with increases in the pulse-separation time. The absorption spectra in an exciton-biexciton system are measured in InGaAs quantum dots by using single dot spectroscopy. The spectra exhibit unusual shapes that have a transparent region under a strong excitation condition. A pump-probe measurement ensures that the exciton state is erased by a quantum interference effect with exciton and biexciton photoabsorption processes.   • Transient observation of extended x-ray absorption fine structure in laser-melted Si by using femtosecond laser-produced-plasma soft x ray, K Oguri, Y Okano, T Nishikawa, H Nakano, APPLIED PHYSICS LETTERS, 87,   2005 07 , We have demonstrated the time-resolved measurement of the extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) in laser-melted Si foil by using a pump-probe absorption spectroscopy system that utilizes a femtosecond laser-produced-plasma soft x-ray source. By using 100-fs laser irradiation, we observed the transient change in the Si L-edge EXAFS, that is, a slight shortening of its oscillation period and a decrease in its oscillation amplitude. This result suggests that the Si-Si atomic distance expanded and structural disordering occurred as a result of the production of liquid Si. (c) 2005 American Institute of Physics.

  • Enhanced water-window X-ray pulse generation from femtosecond-laser-produced plasma with a carbon nanotube target, T Nishikawa, K Oguri, S Suzuki, Y Watanabe, O Zhou, H Nakano, JAPANESE JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS PART 2-LETTERS, 42, (8B) L990 - L992,   2003 08 , We adopt a carbon nanotube target to increase the efficiency of water-window X-ray pulse conversion from femtosecond-laser-produced plasma. The target is an array of vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes, each 30 nm in diameter and about 12-mum long. Center-to-center nanotube distance is around 150 nm. The X-ray fluence enhancement in the water-window region is seven-fold compared with a conventional carbon plate target. Further enhancement can be expected by optimizing the size of the carbon nanotubes. X-ray pulse duration is 26 ps. The results show that carbon nanotubes are very attractive as a target for femtosecond laser-produced-plasma X-ray sources in single-shot X-ray microscopy.

Enhancement of the X-ray emission at the long temporal separation is due to the increase of the absorption of an intense ultrashort laser pulse in a preformed plasma with a scale length longer than laser wavelength. The maximum response of X-ray emission at 22.5 degrees and the weak dependence on the polarization of input laser light infer that collisional absorption with additional resonance absorption in a nonuniform critical density profile is the main absorption process in the preformed plasma.

  • Achromatic Cascade Optical System with Hybrid Lenses for Distortion-compensated Multifocusing of Ultrashort Pulse Beams, Jun Amako, Hidetoshi Nakano, 7th International Conference on Photonics, Optics, and Laser Technology (PHOTOPTICS 2019),   2019 02 27 , INSTICC (Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication), We report an achromatic cascade optical system for multifocusing ultrashort pulse beams in its application in high-precision materials processing. The challenge is to eliminate the beam-radius-dependent pulse broadening or pulse front distortion from the arrayed pulses. We propose the inclusion of a pair of hybrid refractive-diffractive lenses for chromatic aberration correction and dispersion management in the system. From numerical analysis, we have realized that the hybridized system has enormous potential to improve not only the spatial resolution but also the temporal resolution to their respective limits in generating arrayed pulse beams. This pulse delivery system enables high-throughput material processing using ultrashort-pulsed lasers.
